The Tourist and the Fisherman...

An American tourist was standing at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a boat with a fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish.

“How long it took you to catch them?” The American asked.

“Only a little while.” The Mexican replied.

“Why don’t you stay out longer and catch more fish?” The American then asked.

“I have enough to support my family’s immediate needs.” The Mexican said.

“But,” The American then asked, “What do you do with the rest of your time?”

The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos, I have a full and busy life, senor.”

The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you! You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds you buy a bigger boat, and with the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the consumers, eventually opening your own can factory. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually NYC where you will run your expanding enterprise.”

The Mexican fisherman asked, “But senor, how long will this all take?”

To which the American replied, “15-20 years.”

“But what then, senor?”

The American laughed and said, “That’s the best part. When the time is right you would announce an IPO (Initial Public Offering) and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions.”

“Millions, senor? Then what?”

The American said slowly, “Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos…”

Costa Rican it - Four Seasons Costa Rica

Next up on our site inspection list - the Four Seasons Costa Rica!!! I had been über excited to see this resort for months and it did not disappoint. Once you get past the gated entrance you have a couple of minutes to soak in some beautiful Costa Rican scenery along with the Four Season's amazing golf course as you drive down the windy road to the actual resort. As you walk in the lobby it has a warm, welcoming ambiance thanks to the décor full of dark, natural wood with hints of citrusy colors of orange and yellow. You are greeted with a scented & chilled towel along with a cold welcome beverage.

The grounds are immaculate and the pools were very inviting but I had plenty of work to do so I had to stay focused. There were even pool boys bringing trays of scrumptious lunches out to some ladies at the swim up area along the side of the pool. Not only do they have pool service but beach butler service as well. The beaches were the nicest I had seen yet in Cost Rica. The resort has access to two different beaches.

Unlike most resorts the Four Seasons do not require wristbands for their guests so it allows you to sleep comfortably.

One of the things that left a lasting impression on me was the resorts Kids Club. It was brightly colored, festive and FUN! There were plenty of indoor and outdoor activities that would make even the teenagers jealous. This popular program is available at no additional cost for guests ages 4 to 12. They also offer a teens club for the kiddos over the age of 12.

Next up, the rooms. Each room offers things like in-suite wi-fi ($), CD/DVD players, 100% cotton bathrobes (even have them available in kid size), L'Occitane bathroom amenities, complimentary bottled water, Cafe Britt coffee and a welcome amenity. Another impressive thing was all 155 rooms had spacious screened porches which was the first time I had ever seen that before. The Four Seasons Costa Rica proves yet again that they are indeed a family-welcoming resort by offering complimentary cribs, bottles, high chairs, videos and a large selection of games that can be delivered to your rooms.

The four restaurants have plenty of options even for the pickiest of eaters. We were truly blessed to eat lunch there so I had the fresh catch of the day along with the chef's special ceviche and a side of guacamole. De-li-cious!!!

The resort is just about a 40 minute drive from the Liberia or San Jose airport. While there is plenty to do (or not to do!) at the Four Seasons feel free to adventure out and try some of the amazing activities that are within 20 minutes of the hotel.

- Sport fishing enthusiasts will enjoy catchings things like marlin, sailfish, grouper and exceptionally large tuna. Be sure and take your catchings back to the resort for supper.

- The Witch's Rock Canopy tour guarantees a thrilling experience as guests harness up and slide along a series of zip lines high above treetops and valleys. Be sure and look for wildlife along the tour including exotic birds and howler monkeys.

- The Catamaran Cruise is a more relaxing way to explore the Gulf of Papagayo and conveniently leaves right from the resort. You can snorkel or simply enjoy the sunset on their 47 foot catamaran.

The Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo is absolutely stunning and I'm looking forward to going back with my hubbie and boys.

Costa Rican it - the Hilton Papagayo

The alarm went off at 7 am and I quickly got ready so I could enjoy some breakfast at the hotel before our big day of site inspections.

First up ~ The Hilton Papagayo which is an all-inclusive resort with just 202 rooms with 4 different categories. As we stepped off of our shuttle bus we immediately noticed the gorgeous view from the lobby! So naturally I had to get a couple quick pictures. ;)

As the groups manager, Andy, showed us around I noticed the grounds were well kept and beautiful. The resort is built into it's natural surroundings and most of the rooms are in bungalow-like buildings with just 2 rooms per building which make them feel more intimate. Each building had a winding pathway to the front doors that was beautifully landscaped.

The oceanfront rooms were up on a the mountainside and were in bigger buildings. Also in that section the resort has 4 Jr Suites with amazing private plunge pools!

When we were taken down to the beach I couldn't help but to notice that it was bigger and nicer than the Occidental's beach. While I understand that most people do not go to Costa Rica for the beaches it is still important to some.

Andy also showed us their newest restaurant, 'The Grill" which is open for lunch and dinner. While it didn't have air conditioning it did have excuisite palapa roofing and it boasts beautiful views as it overlooked the beach.

They have a gorgeous three-tiered swimming pool with swim up bar and infinity pool.

In the spa section they have special pool-side service and 70 adult-only rooms. It looked ideal for wedding groups so I decided to get to know the wedding planner while there, Mr. Andre.

All in all, this resort ended up being the most impressive all-inclusive for me. It felt Costa Rican and still had the amenities to make an American satisfied.

Costa Rican it - Occidental Papagayo

As I stepped off the plane at Liberia's airport a large white butterfly fluttered by my feet and I knew that I was right where God wanted me to be.
The ride over to our host hotel, The Occidental Papagayo, was just a little over 30 minutes. In that 30 minutes I've never in my life seen so much green! The lush grounds and flowered trees were endless all around and had me hypnotized. It was absolutely beautiful and peaceful.

When we walked into the Occidental Papagayo lobby the first thing you notice is the view. It's open to a beautiful scene of the lush mountains and waters of Culebra Bay in the Papagayo Gulf. We were warmly greeted and given our bracelets to let the hotel's staff know we are now part of the all-inclusive experience. The resort has just about 160 rooms in 23 different buildings built into the hillside of the bay so it didn't ever feel crowded.

Our rooms were not quite ready so we ate at 'the Buffet' until they were. The rooms are quaint and beautifully done. Terracotta tile and sold wood furniture made it feel earthy. The pretty, sheer cream-colored panels flowing over the sides of the bed and down over the ceiling-to-floor windows gave the room an elegant spin on things. However, the outdated bathtub and boxy television set reminded me that I was not at a 5 star hotel but it didn't bother me in the least. I'm in COSTA RICA!!!

After unpacking I decided to head down to the pool and to check out the beach. Disappointingly there was not a swim-up bar but the guests at this resort doesn't seem to be the type looking for a party atmosphere. The pool was beautiful and had a nice view of the winding staircase up to the lobby.

The small walk down to the beach was not as pretty as the entrance to the lobby. The beach was small and disappointing. Rumor has it that the tides were high so that is why it looked unpleasant. Christian, the young man working the bar hut quickly turned my frown upside down with a fresh, cold Miami Vice. Mmmmm mmm, RUM!!

That night for dinner our travel agent group ate at the D'Oriental Restaurant. This is one of their four restaurants. It was truly delicious. Another thing I will always remember about Costa Rica: the water was like Holy Water - fresh and pure.

After dinner they had a soothing live band performing in the open-air lobby. I noticed bright lights across the room... a disco! I made my way over to take a quick peek. I opened the door to a spacious room filled with loud music, a bar, a dance floor and a pool table. It had been a early morning for this girl so I decided to hike back to my room and save my pool shark skills and dance moves for another night. ;)

Since my long day had started at 3:00 am I definitely slept like a baby. I was looking forward to seeing more of Costa Rica the next day, especially the Four Seasons. :-)

Journaling during your travels

How amazing is it to see your family take in all the beauty and excitement while on vacation?? Why not capture what they are feeling?? Sure you can create still shots with fancy cameras but try to take it an extra step further with journaling.

Since I was a little girl I've been a journal / diary writer and I find it so interesting to go back and read what I was thinking and feeling at certain stages in life.

My boys are finally getting old enough to where I feel 110% confident in taking them outside of the hotels & resorts to explore historical and adventurous sites. Sites such as a helicopter ride over an active volcano in Hawaii or taking a tour of the Mayan ruins in the Yucatan.

My dear friend Anne Patron of 500 Place With Kids is the one who inspired me to invest in some Moleskine journals for my boys to write and color in while we go on our adventures. You can read more about her experiences on journaling with kids HERE. I absolutely love the picture below her little one drew of the Chichen Itza Pyramid (known as one of the 7 Natural wonders of the World).

I'm excited to see what comes of this new project! I encourage you to give it a try for it may just be something you will treasure forever.

How I Became A Travel Consultant

Okay, so a question I often get is "How did you become a travel agent?" I didn't go to school and I definitely didn't pay a travel company 100+ dollars to become part of their pyramid scheme of a business. So here is how I did it.

First, I think it is important to know a little bit of background of where I was in life when I first decided to take the plunge into the travel industry:
I was pregnant working full time at a children's fitness gym. My primary duties included running a Mothers Day Out program, instructing sport classes throughout the week, organizing our summer camps and doing 3- 6 themed birthday parties a weekend. I'm exhausted just reminiscing about it. While I LOVED my job and the people I worked with it was starting to take a toll on me physically, emotionally and mentally. I was going to school part time in the evenings to become a Dental Hygienist for that was my main goal.
One day after work I busted out the phone books to start calling travel agencies in the Dallas area. It is a job that I pictured myself doing since I was a little girl... but I hadn't traveled to too many places and wasn't an expert on geography either so I didn't think anyone would hire me. The job would be perfect for me so I kept on despise the doubts... I had probably called about 50 different agencies when finally one lady said that she would give me an interview to see if I would be a good fit. WOOHOOO!!!

I dressed to the nines for the interview and had the attitude like I had it in the bag. After a couple of nerve racking interviews with both of the owners they decided to hire me on. Now it's important to know that I was taking a HUGE pay cut and there was a lot more involved than I had anticipated but it was something I was passionate about so I was ecstatic to get to work. How big of a pay cut you ask? 7 bucks an hour. Yup, less than my first job at Blockbuster when I was 16 years old!! BUT after a year of hourly pay I would be strictly on commission base pay which was scary but also exciting because I have always been a go-getter.

I went through intense training online, with travel representatives and eventually training in the destinations as well. Even now, I learn something new almost every day. While I love being able to interact with people 8-11 hours a day there are some I have to work with who are just plain RUDE and IGNORANT. Since the customer is always right it's important that I keep my cool and stay professional. This is something that I get better at through the years. At first I would let people get to me too much... blood would boil to the point where I would have to walk outside... or sometimes a man would make me cry uncontrollably by some mean words directed at me. Luckily, I realized that there are people in this world that no matter what you say or do they are just going to be unhappy and direct their negative energy at you. My skin has become thicker and I'm now able to turn a negative conversation around to be more on the positive side.

I have my favorite types of trips to plan: destination weddings, Disney, family trips, couples travel, Hawaii and all-inclusive trips. It makes my heart happy to help someone get their trip of a lifetime planned and executed.

Growing up I truly wasn't great at anything... my brother had football, my cousin had gymnastics, best friend had ballet... so I'm at a point in my life where I finally have some things that I am good at: Travel Consulting and being a mommy.

So what about going to school to become a dental hygienist you ask? I slowly stopped going to school. I'm happy with it. Most of the time. ツ Would I be making more money to provide for my family as a Dental Hygienist? Absolutely. I chose happiness over money.

24 hours in Miami

So recently an opportunity came up for a co-worker and I to visit some important business partners in Miami. It would only be for one night and the return flight would have to be early... did I jump on it? Hell yes!!!! I've always wanted to visit Miami AND to personally get to know this group of business partners. And it was amazing. Sleep deprived fun it was.

Ladies and gentleman, this is the hot pink bikini guy of Miami. He smelled quite horribly and poor thing had lost many of his teeth somewhere.

Marty was too scurred to get in the snake pic. LOL To hear him scream like a girl was priceless.

Plenty of drinks and dancing at Mango's.

The women of Miami all seemed to be beautiful and voluptuous. And half naked.

MJ is ba-ack in South Beach.

She liked me.

Sometime after 3am we were quite hungry again. I was surprised on how many places were still open!

All in all, I love Miami and am looking forward to going again with more time to see all of the city.

Today our youngest turns 5 years old. It doesn't seem that long ago when I was rocking his cuddly baby body to sleep. To celebrate we decided to have lunch with family at his favorite restaurant, The String Bean.

5) I've never been to Sin City. Yes, that's right. I have yet to visit Vegas. Wait, do hear that??? I believe I hear Wayne Newton and Elvis singing to me. It's time.

The rooms are chic and modern that include wi-fi internet. The staff and service are superb while the dining & entertainment are fantastic as well.

This week was so busy for me at the office that my head is spinning. No complaints! Busy is better than bored I always say. Due to my longer hours at the office I find myself just wanting to spend time with my boys in the evenings and on days off but I promise to post some more as soon as I am able to revive myself.

New Years Party in Thailand

As a Texas girl there are some things around the globe that I would love to do before I die. Attend a Burning Man celebration, spend a month in Australia/New Zealand and explore Alaska are some just to name a few... one that is fresh in mind on this New Years Eve day is Haad Rin Beach in Thailand. Now some may say I'm getting a little 'too old' for the whole party scene but you only live once right?? From the sound of it Thailand knows how to get down on New Years!

The Haad Rin Beach is a hot spot for thousands of youngsters ready to celebrate the New Year. It is filled with dancing, body painting, fireworks and al-kee-hol. Most of the festivities take place on a gorgeous beach as well. Sounds like a fun and memorable shindig to me!

Family friendly hotel review ~ The Azul Sensatori

My youngest jumping for joy.

The Azul Sensatori was a PERFECT match for my family and I. In fact, I can not imagine a family not being able to have an amazing vacation there.

Location
It is nestled right on the gorgeous Puerto Morelos beach which is just 20 minutes south of the Cancun airport.

Check-In
The check-in was smooth and smartly done. They first offer you a drink and a small damp towel that smells amazing. The kids even have their own section at the check-in desk with Fisher Price goodness to keep them occupied and happy. Brilliant.

Full-service Concierge
We were then led to our concierge who was going to be taking care of us during our stay. In the concierge office they had plenty more Fisher Price toys and shelves of DVD movies and books to be checked out by guests. She was so incredibly sweet and asked us things like
"Which one of these aromatherapy scents would you like the maid service to put in your room during your stay?" As she sprays a few different kinds on strips of paper my husband and I chuckle because we honestly would be happy with any one of them. We decided on the "Caribbean Spice" I believe it was.
She then handed our boys a menu of Fisher Price toys that they could pick to have delivered to our suite.
Ever since the hotel opened in 2008 I have been hearing people in the industry rave about the resort's Adult Only restaurant Le Chique so I was so excited to make our reservations there. Since it fills up quickly I wanted to do this right after check-in. Hubbie and I decided to make the reservations for our last night there. More about that evening later.
We were then given our room keys and taken to our room which was clean, chic and just beautiful.

Accommodations
Every room at the Azul Sensatori have features like a jacuzzi, minibar, iPod docking station, double sinks, vanity mirror and deluxe bathrobes for use during your stay.
There are several room categories at the resort. To name a few: Family Jacuzzi Suites, Connecting Family Jacuzzi Suites (sleeps up to 6!) and Swim Up Jacuzzi Suites.
We were blessed to be in the Premium Swim Up Jacuzzi Suite. The boys loved being able to just jump in the water from our patio.

The Food & Drinks
Azul Sensatori is part of the amazing hotel brand called Karisma. Karisma is known for a lot of their achievements in excellence and service but the first thing that comes to my mind is FOOD. There is not another all-inclusive resort chain that can beat the gourmet food that you devour when staying at their resorts.
Of course the Azul Sensatori did not disappoint. The 24 hour room service food? Delicious. The buffet? Scrumptious! All of the 6 restaurants were beyond impressive. The signature drinks at each bar was also a nice touch.

Children and Teenagers
The Azulitos Kid's Club (ages 4- 12) is open from 9 am to 9:30 pm! While we spent most time together on the beach, playing games or going to eat our boys (ages 4 and 8) were constantly wanting to go back and play with their friends at the kid's club. It is by far the most wonderful kid's club I have seen yet. While I have seen many draw-dropping kids clubs with plenty of bells and whistles, if the staff and children are not having a good time... then it is no bueno in my book. There was never a dull moment at the Azulitos at Azul Sensatori I can tell you that much. The ladies who work in that department were extraordinary. The Azul hotels have a contract with Fisher Price and MyGym so every child is sure to have a wonderful time.
Azulitos also have activities throughout the week that involve the parents to ensure family togetherness which is one of Karisma'a main focuses. While we were there we had an Ice Cream Party with the Little People, a water balloon fight (parents vs. kids) and a Talent Show. Dylan ended up winning the Talent Show with his mean break dancing moves. He won a T-Shirt which he wears proudly every chance he gets. The kids not only enjoy the Azulitos kids club but also the kid's pool with water slide, splash park and playground.

If you have a child under the age of 4 they have you covered as well. In Azulitos they have an entire section for playtime that is geared for babies and toddlers. They even have morning stroller jogs with mommies and babies.

If your child is a pre-teen or teenager they also have an exciting Teens Club. They will enjoy the interactive game room, beach volleyball, nightclub and DJ contests.

Entertainment
At night, there is an entertainment show at the Rooftop Garden Lounge for the whole family, followed by dancing. Listen and dance to the live music in the evenings in the Lounge or on the beach. The fire dancing and acrobatic performances were our personal favorites!

Spa
The spa here is very spacious and inviting. They even have an adorable kids spa menu for the ones who want to have a mommy and me day. I decided to surprise hubbie by purchasing us a 1-hour couples massage on the beach. It took place in a palapa right over the beach area. The smell, the sight breeze from the ocean and sounds of the waves made it a perfect choice to have our Couples Massage.

Adult time
If you do not have children or you are looking forward to having some alone time without the children there are plenty of options as well. The resort has an adults-only section that includes adult-only suites, a separate pool with an immaculate swim-up bar and lounge area.
Hubbie and I thoroughly enjoyed our 8 course meal at the adults-only Le Chique Restaurant on our last night. They also have a 12 course option but we had kiddos to pick up by 9:30 PM. The laughing kept on getting stronger as the wine glasses kept getting refilled. Excellent food, service and chic decor made this evening at Le Chique a memory we will keep forever.

When will the airlines back down on raping us with fees?

The day has finally come for your family vacation and you couldn't possibly be more excited about it. You wake up before the crack of dawn and get everyone and everything loaded up to catch your flight and you aren't even remotely grumpy because you know you are about to be in paradise. You go to check in for you flight with your little ones only to hear "That will be $125 please."

Say what?! $25 per bag? PER WAY?! Recently, many airlines have established a policy of charging travelers for checked baggage and I'm here to let you know that it is starting to get out of hand.

Airtran ~ $15 for first bag, $25 for second

Alaska Airlines ~ $20 for first bag, $30 for second

American Airlines (United States and Canada) ~ $25 for first bag, $35 for second

Continental Airlines (United States and Canada) ~ $25 for first bag, $35 for second

An African Safari in Texas?!

There is a place in the heart Texas where you can feel like you are on an adventuresome African safari. It is a place where you are able to get up close and feed endangered animals, learn all about these amazing creatures and have a bite to eat overlooking some of the best views of Texas. This place is called Fossil Rim Wildlife Center and it is an extraordinary experience for all ages.

Fossil Rim is located in Glen Rose, Texas which is about 75 miles from downtown Dallas. Once you get there you will first go inside the Admissions Gate where you can purchase tickets, feed and any drinks or snacks that you may want for the 9.5 mile scenic drive. They will also give you a resourceful guide to take onward with you. Now it's time to roll down the windows and get on with the show.

You will immediately notice that their 2,700 acres of countryside is nothing but unspoiled beauty. While driving along scenic wildlife drive, you will discover many exotic animals and endangered species. One of the first animals you will see are the ostriches. Their beaks are BIG and while their legs move slow, their heads move FAST so be careful to not let them stick their heads in and eat all of your food! Through the safari you will also have the privilege of seeing and feeding rhino, cheetah, herds of deer, antelope and about 60 other varieties of animals. Our personal favorites were the zebras and the giraffes! They were so fascinating and downright beautiful. Their colors, stripes and spots were so perfectly placed as if God were painting masterpieces when creating them. Cheesy I know. But, oh so true. ;-)

Since the tour may take up to 4 hours there is a stopping point halfway through called the Overlook. From up there you get a dominating view of the magnificent Giraffe Savannah. Once there you can have lunch at the OverLook Cafe, find some really cool things in the gift store, check out the children's petting zoo and/or go for a little hike on the walking trail.

Overall, Texas is genuinely fortunate to have such a smart and beautiful establishment such as the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. Where else in the Southern U.S. can you see nature at it's best like this?

I have been excited to take my boys to Fossil Rim for years. Now that my youngest is four and we all had a day off from school and work on Monday for the Holiday, we decided to take the hour and half road trip to Glen Rose, Texas. There is so much to do in Glen Rose and the surrounding area so be sure an check out some of the other things to do while visiting Fossil Rim:

~ Dinosaur World
~ Tube down the Brazos River

The Tulum Xtreme, my favorite tour in the Yukatan

I've tried several tours in the Cancun/ Riviera Maya area and have enjoyed them all but there is one that stands out from the others: The Tulum Xtreme tour provided by Aventuras Mayas.

The Riviera Maya is not only full of 5 star all-inclusive resorts, friendly people and white sanded beaches but also obtains jungle adventure tours, award winning reefs, historic Mayan ruins and refreshing cenotes. The Tulum Xtreme does an excellent job at capturing these highlights in one fun-fulfilled tour!

Duration: The tour last for about 7-8 hours from the time they pick you up from your hotel until they drop you back off.

What to bring: Comfortable clothes and footwear, water shoes, sunglasses and a hat, bathing suit, extra T-shirt, towel, sunscreen and mosquito repellent, extra cash.
The cash will be for pictures, tips and any souvenirs that you may want. They have a great photography team that capture some amazing shots and then inserts them onto a CD for you to purchase and take home with you.

First of all I think it is apparent that you know that I live in a house full of males. That being said, I feel as the woman of the house I deserve my own little space to help us stay organized (sane) and to get my work done (blog hop and facebook). About a year and half ago I decided to transform our small dining room into my office/library. We are not the type to eat in a dining room. In fact we only used it for Texas Hold 'em parties so it was decided. And it was done. ♥

AllPosters.com had a big sale so I finally ordered the World Map I had been wanting then had a local framer frame it in a beautiful gold, textured frame. Carpet from Home Depot. Curtains and curtain rod from Target. The desk and bookshelves are all from IKEA and I was inspired to get this particular set from the genius Nicole of Making It Lovely from her post back in 2007.

Fun with my two little dudes this weekend

I believe the boys had a tiny, little bit of fun today at Hawaiian Falls Waterpark.

After each slide the Hudsonater would strike this pose and yell "Cheeseburger!!!"

Every time.

"That was a HORRIBLE idea!! What was I thinking?! My stomach feels like it is in my throat! But let's take a picture to show Dad before we go."

Do hear that??? Yes, it is the sound of sweet GOLDEN silence.

Do you know how they say children always seem most beautiful when they are sleeping? It is true. Oh, so true.

Destination Weddings ~ It's not a job, it's a passion

After working as a travel consultant for a couple of years a young lady called me interested in a destination wedding. "A destination wedding?!" The feeling of excitement and nervousness overtook me. It sounded like something that would be a perfect fit for me but I had never done something like that before and I was afraid of the pressure of making sure her special day went perfectly. After a lot of research, deciding on a resort and date, talking with each guest individually throughout the following 6 months 'the' day had finally come.

Was everyone going to remember everything I told them??? Did I forget a big piece of information??? Please LORD don't let it rain!

I eagerly waited 2 days after they had returned home to call each one individually to see how the experience was. To my surprise, everyone loved it! In fact, most of them were ready to start discussing their next trip!

The entire experience had inspired me to start focusing on helping arrange destinations weddings. Sure it is stressful but the end result is so incredibly worth it!

Now, let me slap you with some reality here for a second... we have had our share of nightmare weddings as well. There isn't enough time in the day to get started on those but please know that there are certain people in the world who are simply bitter and unhappy. You know the type, the ones who hardly smile and when they do it is not genuine at all. The ones who are pessimistic about every.little.thing and who seem to somehow enjoy complaining until their head is spinning.

There is probably just 1 out 10 weddings that end up going in the that direction which isn't bad. Not bad at all. Just like everything you have to take the good with the ugly.

Through the past 4 years I have thoroughly enjoyed helping brides and their guests get the best wedding vacations possible. My goal is to always make sure everyone has a fun and memorable time with their closest family and friends in a paradise setting.

Breaking news: United and Continental Airlines merge forces

Today the Justice Department approved the proposal for the Continental and United airlines merger.
The shareholders of these airlines are scheduled to vote on the merger on Sept. 17. It is expected to be completed by October 1st.

This week has been a big week in our household. My hunkie hubbie has decided to get his degree and started college classes on Monday. Also on Monday was my baby boy's first day to preschool. Him and I both are adjusting but it will all be for the best and we will be fine. ;-) My social butterfly, the Dylanmeister, started 2nd grade on Monday as well. His teacher is a young, beautiful woman who he 'hears is the best teacher in the school.' I'm happy to see him loving 2nd grade so much.

Question ~ Am I suppose to tip at an all-inclusive resort??

With apologies to Mr. Shakespeare, this is a question that we get quite a bit as people are making final preparations for their all inclusive vacation.

Technically speaking, tipping is included at all inclusive resorts. That said, there are several schools of thought on the subject.

Some people you’ll talk to say that you’ve saved all year for this all inclusive vacation and its ridiculous to think that you would give additional tips that are supposed to be included.

Then there are other people who say that you tip at home for good service and there isn’t any reason to think you shouldn’t do the same when you’re abroad at a resort.

As with many things, I think there are a range of right answers and you should decide what you are comfortable with.

If you’re asking my opinion (and I guess you are, since you’re still reading) I do think its both nice and useful to tip while you’re in a resort.

First, lets look at the useful aspects of tipping. When you’re spending the day by the pool or the beach, and there is waiter service going by periodically, think about who is going to get better more consistent attention? Would it be the person who is not tipping and all, or the person who tips a dollar or so every couple of drinks? Who is going to get the towel animals on their bed, or a couple of extra towels, or just more helpful enthusiastic service? Tippers, or non tippers? I’m not talking about a great deal of money here, just a dollar or two at a time.

Next, let’s look at the nice reasons to tip. The people who work at these resorts make very little money. One source I saw said that the minimum wage in Cancun is 51 pesos per day. These workers work very long days six days a week At today’s exchange rate that is just over $4.00 (not per hour…per day). While the cost of living in the resort areas is maybe slightly less than in major US metropolitan areas, you can see that $4.00 per day doesn’t go far no matter how you slice it. Tipping even a little helps these people make ends meet. What is a small amount for you can go a long way for the people who make your vacation special.

The mechanics of tipping: If you decide that you do want to tip, make sure you’re prepared. Before you leave, get a supply of small bills. The workers in Mexico seem especially amused by $2.00 bills. I try to get as many as I can from the bank before I leave. Regardless of what denomination you choose, make sure that the bills aren’t damaged or written on. If they are, they cannot be exchanged for pesos and will be worthless to the hard working recipient of your tip.

Either way you go, certainly don’t tip in situations where you don’t feel you’ve received good service. Tipping at all inclusive is truly optional and you should not feel obligated. Your tip should be a gift for great service, something you’re happy to give.

My three men (4 year old, 7 year old and my hunkie hubbie) will be starting school tomorrow so we are all quite excited and I'm sure we will not sleep as well as we should tonight. :P It will be my hunkie hubbie's first time back to school in almost 10 years and I am so incredibly proud and happy for him in making the decision to get his degree. D man, the 7 year old, will be starting 2nd grade and I am still waiting for someone to pinch me. Could I really have a 2nd grader??? Lastly, my baby... the Hudsonater will be going under someone else's care besides me, hunkie hubbie or my parents for the first time. He will be starting a pre-k program and couldn't be more stoked about it. Me, on the other hand, has already cried twice this week preparing myself. Today though, there are no tears and we are all happy and excited for tomorrow. Pictures to be posted soon. ;-)

Let's go swimming with whale sharks! Chya!

Whale sharks are considered the largest fish in the world measuring up to 40 feet. While the name sounds quite scary, they are actually extremely friendly and harmless.

If you are going to be in the Cancun area in July or August be sure and try to book a tour to go see these amazing animas up close. They migrate there during that time of year for rich nutrients and warm waters. In fact, August 30th has officially been named the Mexican Day of the Whale Shark.

There are several tour operators who will book this for you but our preferred is Lomas Travel. Click HERE to book your tour today. The tour generally lasts for about 5 hours and departs from Punta Sam. You will be guided by some professionals who will help you learn more about these large, peaceful creatures.

It is the Christmas choir performance at my church. I am in the 1st grade and quite nervous. My tall, blonde friend Christie was the next step down and right in front of me. The music plays and before I know it, the performance is over. The first thing my grandmother said afterwards was "Why on Earth would they put that tall girl in front of you?! We couldn't even see you!" So every year after that she would ask the choir director to make sure we were all assigned spots according to our height. Christie made the top row after that year. There is a certain section in my closet with items that I always travel with. The number one packing item that goes in the suitcase are my Truflex women's shoes. They are so incredibly comfy and I am able to walk in them for miles with no problem whatsoever. The souls have some kind of rubber material that make them have a perfect amount of bounce. Grand Sirenis Resorts in the Riviera Maya

The Grand Sirenis Resorts are a short 20 miles from Playa del Carmen on the beautiful beach of Akumal. It is 2 resorts in 1 that offer complete exchange privileges: The Grand Sirenis Mayan and the Grand Sirenis Riviera. The first thing I noticed was the straight lines in the modern architecture. Stunning really. The next thing I got really excited about, perhaps too excited, was the lazy river! Too bad I was in my business wear or I would of grabbed me a tube and gone afloatin'. :) The lazy river winds around the resort and had a nicely paced current to it. The next thing I was impressed with was the rooms. Each room was a Junior Suite that had a fully stocked mini bar and living area along with a balcony with outdoor furniture. And again, the decor was very tasteful.

The beach was wrapped around a large, beautiful cove that is perfect for snorkeling. If you are traveling there in July or August, be sure to be on the lookout for mama turtles bringing their eggs ashore to hatch their babies.

After the beach we were able to see their spa. The spa at this resort will forever be impressed in my mind as one of the best spas I have ever SEEN! Perhaps THE best. Thomas Cook Magazine even names it as one of the Best Spas in the World.

After the tour of the amazing spa we had some d.e.l.i.c.i.o.u.s. lunch in the spa's restaurant. Healthy AND impeccable so it is a double dose of fabulousness. ;-)

This resort is perfect for someone who:

* Enjoys an amazing spa.
* Appreciates lazy rivers.
* Finds pleasure in Corona Beer. (They serve it.)
* Doesn't prefer larger resorts.
* Enjoys a charming, white-sanded beach.

The Grand Palladium Resorts in the Riviera Maya would be perfect for those who are traveling in groups of 10 or more. They have a lot of variety, nightly entertainment and are experts when accommodating groups of any size. It would also be perfect for a family with small children looking for an all-inclusive that has a beautiful beach but is trying to stay within a certain budget. Another big perk, the kids club was stunning! The girls working in it were so happy and passionate about what they do and I don't about you but that is so extremely important to me. They even accept children as young as 1!

Even though they don't offer room service, the food in each restaurant was 2 thumbs up. Exceptionally delicious. :)

The spa is also a huge surprising highlight. The water circuit is impressive AND is included for all guests at no additional charge so we of course had to check that out one day after filming. :) Oh and it did not disappoint.

The 2 biggest heads up I must give are
1) It is HUGE. Shuttles are constantly running throughout the complex but there is no hiding the fact how big and spread out the resort is.
2) It is a little over an hour drive south from the Cancun airport.

They have the stay at 1, play at all concept so the options are endless. There are a total of 4 resorts and the names of them are:

Car accident and heading to Me-he-Coe.

On Tuesday I was in my first ever car accident during 5 o'clock rush hour. While no one was seriously injured, my poor car took one hell of a beating. Let's hope she makes it through. I love her. And miss her.

On to more exciting news! My boss Cathi and I will be heading to the Riviera Maya tomorrow to tour some hotels. We will also be taking plenty of video footage so stay tuned for that. I will be flying from Dallas but Cathi will be flying from Mexico City. Why Mexico City you ask? Well, she was formally invited to attend a lunch/ meeting with the President of Mexico, Felipe Calderon along with the Secretary of Tourism. I'm excited to hear how it went!

A new favorite resort ~ The Marival Residences & World Spa

There is a new resort in Riviera Nayarit that has stolen my heart! The Marival Residences & World Spa has thought through every detail to create the ultimate all-inclusive resort.

The resort is just 15 - 20 minutes from the Puerto Vallarta airport and those who have the privilege of staying at the Marival Residences also have full access to it's sister property, the Marival Resort and Suites.

Before going into the details of the new Residences, it is important to know what all you get at the original Marival Resort. Both resorts have lush, tropical grounds that simply stunning. Guests staying at the Residences have convenient shuttles that are constantly running to and from the original resort. The beach there is long, wide and amazing. Guests staying at the Residences have a private beach club area where you can enjoy beach butler service while soaking up some rays. The Marival Resort also has some fun, active pools that include swim-up bars and a über cool waterpark for the smaller ones. Once Nicki and I saw that the kids area had water slides we of course had to try them. :)

The Marival Resort and Suites has a different themed party (a.k.a. fiesta) every night. We were able to make it to the Mexican themed night and we were impressed with the food, entertainment and the decorations. The bright, colorful frills everywhere really made it lively and festive.

Another fun thing to keep in mind is that over at the Marival Resort they have a disco where you can dance the night away.

Okay, so now on to the fabulous Marival Residences & World Spa!

Every single 'Residence' is a penthouse with state-of-the-art design and 24 hour room service. Yes, 24 hours. We had chocolate cake at 2am one night. And it was good. Damn good. The Residences range from 1 to 4 bedroom accommodations. They even have washer and dryers in each Residence! Nicki and I were very excited to discover the washer and dryers. Each Residence have large balconies facing the Pacific Ocean with tropical flowers and patio furniture. Each room have flat-screen TVs and the master bedrooms have iPod docking stations so you can get down with your bad self to En Vogue at any given moment. Or maybe that was just me. Anyhow, the penthouse rooms alone are enough reason to stay in the Residence section.

The Food and beverages. The head chef came to this hotel from the Four Seasons Los Angeles and we are thankful he did! Each meal was impeccable. One day while we were grabbing a bite to eat by the pool Nicki wanted a BLT but it wasn't on the menu but boy, they made her a BLT STAT! LOL, the service goes beyond expectations which really does leave an impression. While they may only have 3 restaurants, don't forget you have full access to the Marival next door which has 4 making a total of 7 restaurants. The Sky Bar is on the top floor and not only does it have amazing views of the Pacific but they serve up some mean drinks as well!

The Spa. The Marival Residences has one of the only World Spas in the country offering 9 different treatments from all over the world along with a cutting-edge salon. I could of stayed in the spa for the entire stay honestly.

Kids need lovin' too. While the resort seemed to be very grown-up, they definitely kept the kiddos in mind when making their 5 star all-inclusive concept complete. They have FREE nanny services (maximum 8 hours/5-night minimum stay required) along with an adorable kids club that offer things like arts & crafts, a game room and just an entire little paradise for them to explore in.

Okay, it's time to announce my favorite part. Are you ready? Drum roll please... How would you feel about .... UNLIMITED excursions INCLUDED??? Years after a group vacation the thing that sticks in everyone's memory is usually a group outing that everyone experiences together. They have things like sunset sailing and the dolphin encounter. How about sea lions? Go horseback riding. Zip line through a jungle!

Nicki and I took advantage of the Dolphin Encounter and the all-day Kontiki tour. They both were amazing but I've got to tell you... dolphins have won a huge place in my heart. I had no idea how interesting, beautiful and SMART they were! It was definitely a highlight of the trip and one that I will never forget.

Hola blogging world! Nicki and I have recently returned from the beautiful Puerto Vallarta! We were able to meet some wonderful people, eat some gourmet food, inspect 3 amazing resorts and we had some adventure thrown in there too. The first resort that I would like to share with you is the ever-so-fabulous Grand Velas.

The Grand Velas All Suites and Spa Resort in Nuevo Vallarta has been a hotel that I've been dying to see since I started in the travel industry in 2005. As you can imagine, I was giddy as a little school girl when we were taking in all of it's beauty when Nicki and I recently had the chance to visit there. It was even more beautiful than I had imagined. It would be perfect for an adults-only vacay or as a family vacation as well. As soon as you walk up, you enter into a spacious and beautiful open-air lobby with spectacular views of the Pacific ocean. You immediately notice that there has been careful consideration into every inch of detail throughout the resort. They greet you with a smile, cold towel with a sinus-clearing scent and a champagne glass filled with the daily specialty drink. Instead of tacky, plastic wristbands you will get to wear a cute, keepsake bracelet.

The pools were just as impressive. The infinity pools appeared to flow gracefully right into pacific ocean. A trick to the eye that made me do a double take. The lounge chairs are beautifully designed with beach towels carefully rolled up on each one. The pool side service was friendly and prompt. Next, we walked down to the beach which made us stop for a few moments. In those moments we simply tried to take it all in. Something about the sound of the waves coming in surrounded by impeccable design and service just made it all come together. I then realized why this resort had won so many awards.

As we were walking up to check out their rooms, we couldn't help but to notice a structure that stole the spotlight. It was obvious that this is where they hold some magnificent weddings and gatherings. Even if you had the ceremony on the beach, wouldn't this be a perfect reception spot?? With the ocean in the background?

We will go over the weddings a little bit later on my wedding blog. Now on to the rooms!

Every single suite was decorated in neutral tones that had pops of tropical-influenced color here and there. The most memorable part for me was that every suite had private, oceanfront balconies decorated with bold, beautiful flowers in the shades of fuchsia.

As we walked through to each restaurant we kept pointing out gorgeous details that would catch our eye such as Koi Fish Ponds and the spacious, lush hallways.

The resort has 4 Signature Restaurants that each have their own unique style and music. Lucca, the Italian has a piano player while Piaf, the French restaurant has a violin player. Please note that Piaf's is for 12 years old and older only.

Next up, that award-winning spa!
As soon as you walk in you smell the aroma and your stress can't help but to melt away. Haha! Corny I know but oh, so true. The Grand Velas is a member of the Leading Spas of the World and they offer every treatment imaginable. The even offer daily meditation, yoga, and Pilates classes.

The Grand Velas has amazing children programs as well. The kids club is open from 9:30 am to 9:00 pm which is unusual for all-inclusive resorts. They usually close at around 4 or 5 pm. Here is an example of what their daily activities look like:

Senator Charles Schumer said on Sunday that he has commitments from five airlines to not follow the lead of Spirit Airlines by charging passengers a fee for carry-on baggage. These airlines include American, Delta, JetBlue, United and US Air.

NCL Hawaii Cruise ~ Review

I recently came across my journal along with some pictures of my Norwegian Hawaii Cruise from Fall 2007 and thought I would share with you fabulous people.

Overall, quick highlights of the actual cruise:
You can eat whenever, wherever and with whomever.
24 hour room service (for those who do not know, this is huge with me)
Blue Moon is open 24 hours as well.
They have a Garden Villa that is 5,700 square feet of absolute bliss! When you are booking 6-8 people be sure and check out this option because it doesn't come out to be much more at all.

One of my most favorite things about Hawaii is the SMELL. There are millions of tropical flowers and they all seem to have rich, beautiful scents. As soon as I land on an island in Hawaii I take in a deep breath and appreciate the Lord's magic. :)

It's day 1 and I woke up at 5 AM. WOW! Bathed and tried that Nair stuff... ugh! Men have no idea how much BULL we go through as women. The hotel has a stereo in the room. Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki scored extra points for that. :) I've been dancing around my room waiting for my 11 AM appointment with Jean, the sales manager at the new Embassy Suites which I'm totally stoked about seeing.
The flight yesterday was LONG but I had an iPod and my book, Same Kind of Different As Me by Ron Hall, so it went by rather fast. My new favorite book by the way. Going down stairs to find some breakfast. Hopefully something under 5 bucks.

9:30 Am ~ walking around the new Waikiki Beach Walk ... looking good. It still has a long way to go until Donald Trump's $350-million-plus project is done. I was taking a picture when a young guy dressed in a Hawaiian uniform asked if I wanted to get in the picture. I politely replied 'no thanks.' He asked me my name with a smile. I answered and noticed his name tag had the Wyndham logo on it. "I'm James. Look, I'm not suppose to do this while on the job but.." he tore a piece of paper, wrote something on it and handed it to me. "If your not doing anything later, I have a group of us that go on my yacht every Friday? It's free."
Ha! And I thought he was going to try and sell me something. I nodded and walked away. The paper had his name, nick name (Komodo Dragon) and his phone number. Perhaps next time when I visit with my HUSBAND we will hit him up. After all, he did say it was FREE. A word I have yet to hear since my arrival. He also gave me a coupon for FREE nachos at the new Senor Frogs. Score! Free lunch.

Okay, so a quick review of the brand spankin' new Embassy Suites Waikiki:

~ The only all-suite resort in Waikiki
~ Free Internet
~ Free breakfast buffet
~ Free reception with music and open bar
~ every room has flat screen TVs and lovely decor

Negative: Once the Trump Hotel is finished there will be no ocean views. :(

About to grab a taxi and head to the cruise port. Cool side note ~ the limo taxis are the same price as the regular ones on the island of Oahu so I have been riding in style. Oh yeah.

The NCL Cruise check-in wasn't too bad. Luckily, I had another book to read in the hour long line.

Once I got on board, the ship is quite beautiful with bright colors and everything seems to be in authentic Hawaiian themes. 3 1/2 hours later I go to check my cabin for my luggage. STILL no luggage. Boo. There is a live band playing by the pool bar so I'm goin' to get jump started on my rum fetish while listening to some Hawaiian tunes.

7:30 PM ~ Just finished my second book, Kick Me by Paul Feig, and the cruise hasn't even left yet. I miss my hunkie hubbie. And my boys. Just wish they were here with me is all.

Tuesday ~ Woke up with a slight hangover but nothing a nice glass of OJ can't fix. We are now in Hilo and I am totally stoked about the helicopter ride today!!!!

1:08 PM ~ I came back to my room and it is clean and fantabulous. They even left me TWO Andes Mints on the pillows. Little do they know I have the room all to myself! Bwahahaha! Andes are my absolute fave.

Well, I had lunch with Scott and Kitty (NCL Sales Reps) and have grown to think quite highly of them. Good souls.
Okay, on my way to the helicopter! Chya!

Wednesday ~ 8:40 AM ~ I'm sitting by the ship awaiting the shuttle to take us to Kaanapali Beach! Yes, we are at my favorite island, MAUI!!! Clear skies and a nice breeze make the weather perfect for a beach bum day.

The helicopter yesterday was absolutely... i.n.c.r.e.d.i.b.l.e. There are so many interesting facts the the pilot announces during the tour that just may blow your mind. For one, they use the heat from the magnum to produce the island's electricity. Another thing ~ in 2002 a volcano erupted and destroyed an entire part of the island. There is just a small part that the lava went around and didn't hit. The only way to get there is by helicopter. He said that the little building there was Pete's Bed & Breakfast. The pilot's friend Pete decided to stay there. I can tell you one thing .. I will NOT be staying at Pete's Place.

1 PM ~ Hearing the waves barge in while my feet are in the sand is the best part of this trip so far. Hearing the kids laugh and seeing the mountains makes up for almost a complete vacation. If my boys were out there playing and my hubbie next to me... then it would be the complete vacation. ;)

Thursday ~ 9 AM ~ I am burnt... BAAAD! Ouch! I put sunscreen on my face, shoulders and neck. Well, when I got back to my cabin it looks HORRIBLE! I'm white in the places where I had sunscreen and red as a damn stop sign everywhere else! All I have left to wear are sleeveless outfits.

Lord help me.

Friday ~ Noonish ~ We are now in Kona (Big Island again) and this will be a day on the boat for me.

Finished yet another book today, One for the Money by Janet Evanovich. Loved it and will probably read her other books as well. Started on Women and Money by Suze Orman which is also a good one.

Sunday ~ Kauai!!! Today was a blissfull day. Kauai is known for a couple of things ~ home of one of the most scenic canyons in the world, their lush mountains and their RANCHES. As a Texas girl who loves horses, this is what I chose to do while there. And boy, the tour did not dissapoint.

Saturday ~ Another day of training. Fun, fun, fun!

Interesting facts I learned today about Celebrity's Alaska Cruisetour. They have a lot to offer for those wanting to explore the beauty and excitement of Alaska.
Celebrity has there very own train and motorcoaches. Be sure to try and get the first car on the train so you will be able to see the most wildlife.
You will have the same driver and tour director for the ENTIRE trip. 12-16 people tops on the tours.

The Norwegian Hawaii Cruise in a nutshell:

If you are wanting to see the main islands of Hawaii on a budget, the NCL cruise will probably be a good match for you. I personally would rather experience the islands by flying and staying at each one but it is a perfect option for those who are wanting to get it all done while on a budget. The cruise has food, drinks, entertainment and lodging so it is like a floating hotel!

A lot of the stops are OVERNIGHT which is very rare for cruises and also nice for those who would like to experience more time on a particular island.

They have a kids club and a program for teenagers. They are not comparable to Disney's or Carnival but they do have them and offer a lot of different activities throughout the sailing.

A big heads up I must give is the staff. If you are a frequent cruiser you are probably use to the international hospitality you receive while cruising. Most of the staff on the NCL Hawaii cruises are American so please keep this in mind if you plan on taking advantage of one of their fabulous itineraries.

Overall, it was okay food and service but the main attraction is definitely the DESTINATION. It is no secret that I have a big place in my heart for the islands of Hawaii. The somewhat-all-inclusive NCL Hawaii Cruises are a wonderful way to to experience them on a budget.

Tifani and Russell were truly a sweet and genuine couple to work with so I was beyond excited to hear they all had a wonderful time. Then when the ever-so-fabulous photog, Celina Gomez, shared the pictures with me I was even more in awe. Isn't the Dreams Tulum a picture-perfect location?? I'll never forget the first time I visited the Dreams Tulum... the colors, the food, the people, the authenticity and most of all ~ that enormous, beautiful beach! 2 Hostels that the hunkie hubbie and I want to visit... and SOON!

Hostels often get a bad rep for being nasty and unsafe, especially in Amsterdam. In 2005, Eli Roth came out with that awful movie "The Hostel" which definitely didn't help the situation. Today we are going to go over two hostels in Europe that not only feel safe and clean but you will most likely have a blasty blast while there as well.

At 6:57 PM, a record broke in Dallas today. The most snow fall we have had in a calendar day. Ever.

9.4 inches of snow in Texas today and it was truly magical. It was big, fluffy flakes too. I don't think there had been so many Cowboy snowmen built in one day in our fine country's history. ;)

Road trip to the funny farm

This last weekend the boys and I took a little road trip to Lindale, Texas! Oh yeah. Hunkie hubbie had to stay back home and work but the boys and I tried to make the most of it. We packed up our normal suitcases, loaded up the jag and headed on our way.

First stop? Texas' antique capital! Forney, TX is a cute town filled with unique antique shops and definitely has that comfy atmosphere.

This South Park bus grabs your attention while driving down highway 80 that's for sure. "Respect my AUTHORITÉY!"

It was fun for us to look around and I truly wanted to buy something funky for the farm but before we were even able to go inside Dylan tripped and skinned his knee. Of course he screamed and cried as if he were going die a tragic death. I kissed his head, helped him up and then we got back in the car to head to our next stop.

Second stop was a little special surpise for my 2 little handsome men. The Russell Stovers factory! Well, at least that's what I thought it was but it was in fact a distribution warehouse with an outlet store. Eh, good enough. As long as we got some of that milky chocolate in our mouths I knew we would all be happy.
Everything was very reasonably priced so we bought some Valentine goodies for some of our favorite family people as well. I bought The Pecan Delight for my grandmother and I. The boys picked out little Valentine hearts that had a puppy chocolate lab on the covers. It reminded them of Roxy, our amazing superdog.

The third stop before arriving to our destination was the Tanger Outlet Center in Terrell, TX! The truth is I needed a pair of sunglasses for the one pair I had was broken by a rambunctious 4 year old boy that lives in my house who calls me 'mom.' To my luck they had a Sunglasses outlet store! We got in and I bought a decent, affordable pair then we got out. Uh oh. What was next door? Well, why it was the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory of course! I instantly start dreaming of several chocolate covered strawberries begging me to devour them.

Me: "Boys, we are going to go in this store but if their chocolate covered strawberries are more than a dollar a piece, we are walking right out? Is that clear?"

Boys (in a grumbly tone): "Yes, ma'am."

We go in and the boys fill with excitement as they drool over the stock of lavish chocolately treats. I focus in on the prize. There they were. Big, beautiful and practically perfect in every way. But wait! There's no pricetag. That can't be a good sign, right? So I ask the lady at the counter how much for them. "Two dollars and fifty cents." Shit. Oh well. I order 5 for us to share and we head out.

We arrive to the farm just in time to feed our cows. Now, I know it may not sound interesting, but this is indeed a big highlight of our lives. In fact, we love feeding our cows so much that they are probably the fattest heffers in all of Smith County. They are damn big. Healthy big though.

Everytime I pull up to this, a sense of peace comes over me. I'm now on country time, no longer the busy Dallas time and that my friends is a very, very good thing.

This is Sox who is the hand whore. A cute one at that.

We played Wii, ate a lot and just enjoyed being together. Before I go, there is one last little cutie I must introduce you to. Her name is Ruthie. She is a Chug (half Chihuahua and half Pug). Ruthie is my grandmother's dog and is a good traveling dog as long as she has her doggy bed. Well, my grandmother was riding with us on the way back home so I loaded the jag up again, putting Ruthie's bed in the trunk. I started to head back in the house to get another load but Ruthie came running out of the house like a speeding bullet, jumped up in my trunk and right into her bed. haha! I had to get her picture. Funny ass dog.

Julie, 34, of Garland, Texas passed away Thursday January 7, 2010 in her home after a courageous 6-year battle with breast cancer.

My sister-in-law was truly beautiful and pure. She was good to the core, you know? Just innocent, beautiful and absolutely sweet. She was not only my sister-in-law but my dance partner, scrapping buddy and good friend. We love you and miss you. ♥
