Yes, it is perfectly safe to travel to the touristy destinations in Mexico right now. The guy at the Texas DPS who is giving out false statements should be ninja kicked. Hard. Totally want to agree with you about traveling to Mexico right now. We had a fabulous time over February break and we ventured FAR from the crowded beaches and tourist spots. (Check out my posts at http://www.500placeswithkids.com)
