So I come home Friday to be greeted at the front door with a package that contained this:

Multi-Tasking Concealer and the Long Handled Kabuki brush by Everyday Minerals
Happiness immediately overtakes me. :) While I do not have a butt-load of make-up products, the ones I do have I cherish. When it comes to beauty products I am very picky for I have sensitive skin, a tight budget and it must not only look great (natural) but feel like it as well. I discovered Everyday Minerals about 2 years ago and have been hooked ever since. It blends on smoother than the other mineral make-up I have tried and is a lot more affordable as well!
They even have a 'try it before you buy it' offer where you can order kits with sample sizes to assure your perfect match! The kits are a wonderful value at $5 each! And you can add ONE to your cart absolutely FREE with every order. Discount applies during checkout.
Dylan started Cub Scouts this week and he is super stoked about it! He already has some really fantastical ideas on how to decorate his car for the Pinewood Derby Race. Little brother seems to be just as excited about it all as well.
It has been raining all weekend here in North Texas so the boys and I have been trying to stay busy in the house.

A boy and his dog.
Okay, so must of you know that my oldest is a very active boy or how most of us moms put it "a spirited child." Ever since he started pre-school (now in first grade) I live every weekday hoping and praying that he can go through the day without disrupting the class and stay focused on the things he is suppose to. I dread getting that phone call from the teacher which has happened more times than I could possibly count. Well, we received our first phone call of the year on Friday and Dylan's behavior seems to be the main topic again between hubs and I.
While I have what seems like hundreds of people around me constantly giving advice (medication, therapy, spankings, etc) I know deep down inside that this is simply the way that God has created Dylan to be. It is how he has been since he was in my womb and this is how he will always be. While there are some tricks that we learn as parents along the way, I don't believe that there is one magical solution to 'fix' a person's activeness. While teachers and doctors may see this as a sign of weakness it can be just as much as a sign of strength, maybe even more so. Afterall, some of our most successful leaders were diagnosed with ADHD: John F. Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Benjamin Franklin, Christopher Columbus, Henry Ford, Emily Dickenson, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Pablo Picasso and Vincent Van Gogh. Just to name a few.
Here are a few things that we are currently trying:
* sticking with daily routines
* trips to the park as much as possible
* plenty of exercise
* keeping him in sports and other active groups
* avoiding sugars and certain starches
* harnessing his attitude
* giving him breaks during clean-up and homework time
Now, I understand that medication and therapy may a perfect solution for some but we have decided to help guide our spirited child with the iron fist and velvet glove approach. We are not completely scratching those options from the list but they are last resorts for sure.
